Primarily for a long time I have been a teacher, coaching recitation skills in respect of the Holy Quran, to adults and seniors. All of them were Non-Arabs and not educated in Arabic.
In that hobby (not profession) I came across their genuine difficulties and inconveniences hidden in the contemporary printing system of the Holy Quran.
One of them was: Unlike Roman script, wherein each and every 'Basic sound' of an Arabic phonetic' (or letter) can be represented by only one symbol, Arabic scripts required 3,4 or even more symbols to represent each Arabic phonetic (or letter).
This led me into years of research and development. Finally, I come up with 'Single Case Arabic Font'. In this Font only one symbol represents a specific Arabic letter, at all its locations in a word and / or in a text.
Simultaneously, I came across many 'Heirs of Urdu,' i.e. children and grand children of 'Urdu loving' rather 'Urdu devotees'. Some of their remarks were as alarming as under:
Unlike Roman script, conventional Urdu scripts require us to learn more than one symbol for each Urdu letter. More over, many Urdu symbols are mutually very similar and therefore are extra difficult to be easily recognized.
What is the big game learning a complicated (Urdu) script, not commonly represented on the Internet? Our purpose is well served by typing Urdu transliteration in Roman, which is much more common and comfortable on the Internet.
-
Very often our Arabic prayers and the Holy text are also transliterated
into Roman, for us to read and memorize. Similarly Urdu can also
be transliterated in Roman, for us to read and understand.
Such statements from the 'Heirs of Urdu' made me expand my research and development to come up with Single Case Urdu Font. It also requires, only one symbol per Urdu letter.
The well wishers of Arabic and Urdu supported me when they remarked:
'If you have to transliterate Arabic and Urdu for your next generation, better do it in Single Case Arabic and Single Case Urdu Fonts,' and not in Roman.
'Not only the Single Case Urdu Font reflects original splendor in simplified and standardized version of Nastaleeq, but also its direction of reading the text is genuine, from right to left.'
Humbly, I submit that right from the beginning, I am the sole thinker, calligrapher architect, and developer of Single Case Arabic and Urdu Fonts, on Fontographer of Macromedia. Copyrighted 1998-2002 the two fonts have:
-
Their direction of reading is from right to left.
Arabic and Urdu characterization in their traditional alphabetic symbols.
Distinct merit of single symbol per letter capability, similar to Roman script.
Possibility to become modern IT scripts of Urdu and Arabic.
I am greatly in debited to all my friends, admirers, critics and others. Without their contribution these two fonts could not have been perfected. And, two great conveniences, viz Easy Recite Arabic and Easy Read Urdu could not have been offered to humanity, especially to the devotees of the Holy Quran and the Urdu lovers and Heirs of Urdu.
My dreams are not totally realized. There remains enough work for others to accomplish.
To reconcile two fonts to standard key maps of Arabic and Urdu languages. And, then place them on liberal 'distribution,' for the benefit and use of all.
To transform Arabic and Urdu languages, using these fonts, into modern IT competitive and popular languages.
Printing and publishing the Arabic and Urdu treasures, for the benefit of humanity, especially the devotees of the Holy Quran and the Urdu lovers and the Heirs of Urdu.
I am praying and looking for genuine patrons, sponsors, well wishers and reliable faithful heirs. Any suggestions, feedback and comments are welcome and will not be ignored.
This Easy-Read-Urdu
site with all its contents is the result of my individual effort and
investment. It is a humble contribution to help Urdu regain its popularity,
esteem and readability in its original culture of 'Nastaleeq.' This
is a gift to the Heirs of Urdu.
My other site is at www.easy-recite-arabic.org
